The 8 year old mare, already a bumper and double hurdles winner, made the long journey north worthwhile. Patiently ridden off the pace by Shane Fenelon, she crept into the 3m chase, racing clear from the last for owners Big Time Billy Racing, named after Karen’s late father, renowned horseman Bill Bryan, and bred by his son Johnny.
Peter and his wife Karen have transformed what began as a modest bungalow and a couple of fields into a top class racing yard.
In the last 10 seasons, horses trained by Peter Bowen have won almost 500 races and more than £4.5 million in prize money.
